The Illini have been on a recruiting roll over the past few seasons and the class of 2023 has done nothing to diminish the expectation that this program will continue to recruit at a high level both in the high school ranks and in the portal. On Wednesday, the Illini are expected to add to their roster with 3 talented prospects.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- For the first nine games of this season, Hugh Robertson has been the punter for Illinois and the program’s head coach sees no reason to change that going into game number 10. 

Illinois head coach Bret Bielema confirmed Monday in his media conference at Memorial Stadium that “Hugh Robertson is our starting punter” despite the 29-year-old Australian’s struggles on Saturday in the 23-15 loss to Michigan State.

Illinois…you’ve come a long way, baby!

Remember that day five years ago this month?  The Illini made the unprecedented trip south to Charleston to play Eastern Illinois in an exhibition with the proceeds going to hurricane relief.  It was Brad Underwood’s first time coaching his new program in a game-like setting and an experience he may still have nightmares about.  The Panthers schooled Illinois in front of a sold-out Lantz Arena crowd to the tune of 80-67.

Luckily it was only an exhibition, but it showed Underwood just how far he needed to go to resurrect the once-proud Illini program to national status.
