Transfer Jeremiah Williams Decommits From Illinois

The Fighting Illini men’s basketball program's search for a veteran to lead the way at the point guard position continues, after Iowa State transfer Jeremiah Williams announced he is decommitting from Illinois.

Williams made it official on Twitter, posting "I will be opening my recruitment 100%." IlliniGuys later confirmed that statement.

Willams Twitter statement: “I will be opening my recruitment 100%.”

The former Chicago Simeon star committed to head coach Brad Underwood earlier this month, just hours after coveted Toledo transfer chose Baylor over Illinois and others.  But at issue is the Achilles injury he suffered last fall that kept him from ever suiting up in an Iowa State uniform after he played two seasons at Temple, where he averaged 9.5 points and 4.5 assists.

It isn't clear if Williams will be healthy enough to play this season or if he would have to sit out a year due to this being his second transfer.

The decision leaves the Illinois program with 12 scholarship players and one open scholarship to bring in another student-athlete this season.
