Terrence Shannon Jr., hailing from Chicago, Illinois, has been named Big Ten Player of the Week for his outstanding performance from February 12th to 18th. His impressive stats include averaging 29.0 points, shooting at 54.8% from the field, 40% from beyond the arc, and 85.7% from the free throw line. These stellar numbers helped lead the Illini to a home victory against Michigan and a road win at Maryland.
Throughout the week, Shannon also contributed with 2.5 blocks, 2.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. His exceptional play earned him the kenpom game MVP title in both contests.
In the Illini’s commanding 29-point victory over Michigan, Shannon delivered a game-high 31 points, setting a new career-high mark in Big Ten play. Notably, he achieved this feat with 11 made field goals on just 15 shot attempts, securing his first 30-point game in conference action, all while playing a mere 28 minutes against the Wolverines.
During the Illini’s 85-80 road win at Maryland, Shannon continued to shine, contributing 27 points and four blocked shots. This victory marked the program’s first-ever win in College Park since the Terrapins joined the Big Ten. Shannon’s performance drew 12 fouls against Maryland, resulting in a remarkable 14-of-16 performance at the foul line—both career highs in free throws made and attempted.
Next on the agenda, Shannon and the 12th-ranked Fighting Illini will travel to University Park, Pennsylvania, to take on Penn State at Rec Hall on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. CT/BTN.
