CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Wednesday was already a good day for fans of Illinois basketball. Montenegrin freshman forward David Mirkovic announced his decision to return to Champaign for his sophomore season in true Mirkovic fashion by making his livestreaming debut on Twitch.In the evening, the good news kept coming, as Jonathan Givony reported that twins Tomislav and Zvonimir Ivisic would be returning to the program along with Jake Davis. The trio is represented by Misko Ražnatović, a Serbian agent who represents the likes of Nikola Jokic and Ivica Zubac.
It was reported earlier this month that Davis, who has been described as an honorary Balkan by his teammates from that corner of the world, recently made the switch to have Ražnatović as his agent.
Davis joined Illinois as a sophomore two springs ago after beginning his collegiate career at Mercer. Carrying the reputation of a sharpshooter, he’s filled that role in two full seasons in Champaign, competing in 69 games over two years and shooting 76-of-197 (38.6%) in that time. While he was a bench player for most of his sophomore year, he was elevated into the starting lineup this past season as the team dealt with an injury to forward Andrej Stojakovic.
In the portal craze that’s erupted since the end of the team’s Final Four campaign, Mihailo Petrovic and Toni Bilic, both represented by Ražnatović, have entered the portal.
The team has been quick to work in picking up players as well, bringing in Estonian guard Stefan Vaaks from Providence, while also being one of the teams in the mix for Wisconsin guard John Blackwell.
With Davis and the Ivisic twins announcing their return, head coach Brad Underwood and his staff are now set to return no fewer than four of their eight most-utilized players from last year. With Kylan Boswell set to graduate and Keaton Wagler declaring for the NBA Draft, Stojakovic is the last remaining rotation player to have not announced a return or entered the portal.
