Illinois' recruiting class for next fall took a big hit this afternoon when defensive tackle Jamarrion Harkless announced he was decommitting from Illinois and re-opening his recruitment.
Although a three-star athlete, the Lexington, Kentucky product was arguably the best prospect in Illinois' 2023 football recruiting class.
He garnished offers from Auburn, Cincinnati, Georgia, Kentucky, and Louisville.
The decommitment came as a surprise to the staff, but it’s the nature of college football.
Harkless broke the news officially on Twitter saying, “Thank you Illini Nation for all the love I received from you. I also want to thank the coaches for seeing the potential in me and taking a chance on me. I’ve decided to decommit from Illinois and I’ll be opening my recruitment back up.”
