The amazing spring of incoming Illini freshman Quintin Coleman continues tonight.

The 6-foot-4 guard will make his USA Basketball debut as the U18 team opens play in the 2026 FIBA AmeriCup in Leon, Mexico.

Coleman committed to the Illini on April 3rd on the eve of their first Final Four appearance since 2005. He decommitted from Wake Forest earlier this year and Illinois quickly took the lead in his recruitment.

Coleman led Principia to back-to-back Missouri state championships while grabbing that state's Gatorade Player of the Year Award among countless honors. He was also a first-team MaxPreps All-American and second-team Naismith All-American while averaging 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists per game for the St. Louis school. The five-star recruit is the first Illini to compete with USA Basketball since Ty Rodgers wore the red, white, and blue in the summer of 2022.

The AmeriCup opens tonight and will culminate with the gold medal game on Sunday. Illinois is competing in Group A and will face host Mexico tomorrow night and Brazil on Thursday to complete opening round play. USA has won gold medals in 11 of 13 tries in this event. Dayton's Anthony Grant is serving as head coach.
