CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Geovana Lopes scored a season-high 13 points as Illinois routed McNeese State 100-38 Wednesday afternoon in women's basketball.
The Illini (3-0) closed out the first quarter on a 19-4 run in which six different players scored. Illinois led 22-7 after the first period and 52-12 at halftime.
Junior forward Kendall Bostic delivered a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Adalia McKenzie scored 12 points, Genesis Bryant 11, and Jayla Oden and Makira Cook added 10 each for head coach Shauna Green.
The Illinois defense stepped up, holding the Cowboys (1-2) to just ten field goals in the entire game and only 16 percent shooting from the field. The Illini also scored 20 points off 18 McNeese State turnovers.
The game was played before a crowd of 8,141 on the sixth Field Trip Day hosted by the program. That attendance nearly doubled the previous Field Trip Day game record, set in 2019.
It's the first 100-point game for the Illini since losing to Sacramento State 109-107 in November 2018 and the first time hitting the century mark in a win since beating Alcorn State 112-28 in November 2013.
Illinois returns to action when Evansville visits State Farm Center this Saturday on Senior Citizens Day. The game tips off at 2pm CT and can be viewed on BTN+. It will be the fourth in a five-game season opening homestand before the team heads to Daytona Beach for a pair of games over Thanksgiving weekend.
