Junior All-American candidate Ayo Dosunmu has been ruled out for tonight’s home finale vs. Nebraska.
Dosunmu sustained a facial injury in Tuesday night’s loss to Michigan State on a hard foul by Spartans center Mady Sissoko. Game officials initially didn’t call a foul on the play, but upgraded to a Flagrant 2 foul after reviewing the replay. Sissoko was ejected from the game.
The 6’5” guard from Morgan Park High School is enjoying one of the best seasons in Illinois history. He’s the first college player since 2009 to average 20 points, six rebounds, and five assists a game and last week joined Michigan State legend Magic Johnson as the only Big Ten players to record multiple triple-doubles in a career.
On Monday, Dosunmu was chosen as one of five finalists for the Bob Cousy Award as the nation’s top point guard and he’s in the running for the Big Ten and several National Player of the Year awards.
The timetable for his return to the lineup has not been set, but the team is not ruling out a return prior to the start of the Big Ten tournament.
