CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Illinois committed a season-high tying 22 turnovers as they fell to 22nd ranked Michigan State 86-68 Sunday afternoon at State Farm Center.
The Spartans scored 26 points off the Illini mistakes, recording 15 steals as they snapped the hosts' two-game win streak and prevented them from getting their third win this season over a ranked opponent.
Illinois (13-5, 3-4 in Big Ten conference) played catch-up all afternoon, falling behind 9-2 as they didn't get their first field goal until a Berry Wallace jumper four minutes and 17 seconds into the game.
Down 43-34 at halftime, the Illini closed the gap to 68-60 with 7:23 remaining in the game. But Michigan State allowed just three field goals after that as they closed on an 18-8 run.
Illinois failed to hit a three-point shot, going 0-for-8 from the arc for their worst long-distance shooting effort this season.
Kendall Bostic delivered her 11th double-double of the season with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Adalia McKenzie added 15 points and Jasmine Brown-Hagger 12.
Theryn Hallock led all scorers with 26 points for Michigan State (15-3, 5-2).
