Jaydon Wright, a 6-foot-1, 230-pound running back from Kankakee finally took his visit to his home state university after seeing other places in the country.

Wright did a podcast with me (Ked's Recruiting Roundup). He sat there with his brand new orange t-shirt that read FAM1LLY on it grinning from ear to ear. I asked Jaydon why he was so happy.

Jaydon said, "It was awesome today, I could not believe all the great things I saw there today. It was everything I wanted it to be and more."

Wright is a 2024 prospect from Bishop McNamara High School, but he is considered one of the best in the state of Illinois and the country. He is a big strong powerful back with speed and more speed, he blocks well for his age, and his upside is untapped.

Wright said, "I have offers from Syracuse, Central Michigan, Purdue, FAU, but a lot of interest from schools like Notre Dame, Wisconsin,  Stanford, Ole' Miss, Kentucky, Miami Ohio, and Oregon State."

With all those schools involved, Wright has made other visits thus far.

"I've visited Purdue, Iowa, Central Michigan. It was easy to talk to the coaches at Illinois. That will go a long way with me," he said. "It was amazing to see the coaches face-to-face and watch the practice firsthand, it was great. See the facilities and the players on campus. Because Illinois is showing so much interest in me being my state school, I'm using it as motivation to keep working on my game to be the best I can be."

Wright said, "Think about it, I'm young, and I have a Big Ten school asking me to visit them. Being a sophomore, there's a long way to go in this recruiting process. Illinois will be in this fight until the end but will battle the Iowa Hawkeyes. Head coach Bret Bielema has proven he can go head-to-head with the big boys in recruiting."
