CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The State of Illinois moved into Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois plan on Friday, allowing the University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate to announce 100% capacity for the 2021-22 sports season. Fighting Illini football will open at full capacity for college football's first kickoff of the 2021 season on Aug. 28 vs. Nebraska at 12 p.m. CT on FOX.  Single-game tickets will go on sale at 12 p.m. CT today.

"We are excited to be the first college football kickoff at 100% capacity in nearly 20 months," said head coach Bret Bielema. "The combination of being the first college football game of the season and being at full capacity will allow our fans to show the country that Memorial Stadium is an electric environment. I know our players can't wait to see Grange Grove lined with the Illini famILLy during our team's walk into the stadium and hear more than 60,000 fans going crazy in Memorial Stadium against Nebraska."

Illinois has 21 "super seniors" on its 2021 roster who will be using the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Illini have more returning scholarship "super seniors" than any Power-5 team in the nation and five more than any other program in the Big Ten. The Illini return 86% of its defensive starts from a year ago and 81% of its offensive starts.

Illinois opens Big Ten play with two conference home games for the first time since 1991 when the Illini start the season in week zero against Nebraska before Maryland makes its first ever visit to Memorial Stadium on Sept. 17.

Single-game tickets start as low as $20 for non-conference games or $35 for Big Ten competition excluding Wisconsin. Illinois' homecoming matchup vs. the Badgers will be $65.
