Sunday evening, while the Fighting Illini men's basketball team was playing on the hardwood, the football staff received a commitment from 6-foot-0 Aaron Ball, a 2024 running back for St. Laurence (Burbank, Ill.).
Ball was listed to the Illinois high school All-State team in 4A last week, and now he is going to play for his state university.
Ball said to IlliniGuys, "Illinois is such a great place, and the coaches were honest with me. They are amazing coaches."
Pat Ryan, the director of high school relations, was the lead recruiter for the preferred walk-on.
Ball would like to think he can play his way into a scholarship with effort and productivity.
"My season stats are 1,400 yards rushing, 21 touchdowns, and I averaged 8.5 yards a carry," Ball said.
He has been on campus several times, and he loved it. This weekend you will be able to see Ball in action at the state playoffs; St. Laurence’s record is 10-3.
