Champaign, IL – The University of Illinois women’s basketball team has secured a key international commitment, landing sharp-shooting wing Erica Finney from Australia. Finney, a 6-foot-1 scorer, is known for her ability to shoot from anywhere on the court.
Finney joins Destiny Jackson as part of the 2025 recruiting class thus far. Her commitment was made official early this morning by ATC Academy Australia, which reported:
"The University of Illinois got to see Erica shine at our May 2024 Sydney College Showcase, and they were instantly impressed! We’re so proud of you, Erica! You truly belong at this level, and we can’t wait to see the amazing things you’ll achieve. So excited to have helped you find your forever home at Illinois."
According to a source familiar with Finney’s game, while her standout skill is scoring, she has also worked hard to develop her ability to handle the ball.
The Big Ten is known for its teams with elite shooters, and Illinois appears to be following that trend. Finney averaged 8.0 points per game last season and shot 36% from three-point range.
