Sources close to the Illinois quarterback said to IlliniGuys.com this morning and Illinois athletics officials have confirmed the news minutes ago that the transfer from Syracuse will get the nod to start against Minnesota in this 11 a.m. matchup despite suffering a severe ankle injury last week against Iowa.

DeVito, who is averaging 193.8 passing yards per game this season, has been practicing all week and sources confirm the quarterback was not in a protective walking boot during the team dinner at the hotel on Friday night.

DeVito tied Illini record for a quarterback with three rushing touchdowns in the win at Wisconsin two weeks ago and connected on a 14-yard TD pass to Chase Brown on his first pass attempt as an Illini player in the 38-6 win over Wyoming on Aug. 27/22. DeVito also tallied 13 consecutive completions vs. in the 24-3 win over Virginia on Sept. 10, which tied for the fourth-longest streak in program history and the most since Nathan Scheelhaase’s record of 15 straight vs. Northwestern in  2013.
