Kedric Prince - IlliniGuys Director of Recruiting
June 19th, 2022
David Olano a 5-10, 160-pound, 2023 Kicker from Naperville, IL committed to Illinois today. Sources close to the program said Olano committed a couple days ago but wanted to make it official today. Olano is a 5-star Adidas All-American kicker. Illinois battled Notre Dame for his services, the other offer came from Air Force. Olano has visited other schools, like Louisville Alabama, Indiana, Minnesota and Notre Dame, others were starting to call, but at the end he knew Illinois was where he wanted to be.
"The reason I picked Illinois was because I thought it would be the best place to help me grow as a player and a person. The culture there is unlike others and it’s truly a family. Staying in state was something so special as well to my family and I. Being able to play for my state is a no brainer. Also, the resources and staff here is incredible and I think can take me to reach my goals. Special teams aren't taken lightly which I love," Olano said.
Olano added, "My strengths are definitely my leg strength. I drive the ball to the back of the end zone and can hit FGs all over the field with good range."
Illinois special teams coach Greg Froelich hit a homerun when Olano visited campus. Special teams can win football games and this new staff definitely put an emphasis on it.
According to Olano, he will kick field-goals and lead the kickoff team.
