MADISON, Wisc. - The Illinois women's basketball team seems to be determined to head into their daunting season-ending stretch on a winning streak.
Adalia McKenzie scored 18 points as the Illini dominated Wisconsin 74-51 Sunday afternoon to score their sixth win in a row, but it came with a moment of concern.
Late in the third quarter, fifth-year senior Genesis Bryant left the game with an apparent ankle injury. Bryant did not return to the game, wearing a brace on her right ankle and jogging up and down the tunnel, according to Matt Stevens of IlliniGuys.com.
Bryant scored 11 points, all coming in the first half when Illinois built a 42-25 lead behind a stifling defense that nearly forced as many turnovers (eight) as field goals allowed (nine).
Kendall Bostic scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for here 50th career double-double, two shy of equaling Jenna Smith's Illinois record. Brynn Shoup-Hill and Berry Wallace each hit a trio of three-pointers to lead the Illini to a season-high 11 treys in 21 attempts. Illinois draining more than half of their attempts for just the second time this season, after they hit 6-of-10 in the win at Indiana last month.
Shoup-Hill finished with 11 points and Wallace 10 as Illinois (19-5, 9-4 in Big Ten) climbs into fourth place in the Big Ten. The top four teams in the final conference standings receive double byes in the Big Ten tournament in Indianapolis nexst month.
Serah Williams scored 14 points for Wisconsin (11-13, 2-11).
Illinois returns to action Thursday night when they host Penn State (6pm CST, Big Ten Network Plus). After a home game with Nebraska next Sunday, the Illini travel to Los Angeles to face top-ranked UCLA and No. 7 USC in consecutive games before returning home to host Michigan in their season finale. All three teams are projected to receive bids to the NCAA tournament next month.
