CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois head coach Bret Bielema repeatedly has said publicly that he and his player personnel staff keep files on several Illinois native players who decided to start their collegiate careers out of the state.

Bielema’s stated purpose of these long-term files is to keep tabs on players who might one day decide to leave their first university for an opportunity to return their home state . . .
