Recruiting: Junior College Star Receiver Capka-Jones Picks Illinois

June 25th, 2023

An outstanding month of June for Illinois football recruiting got a little better Sunday afternoon, as coveted junior college wide receiver Alexander Capka-Jones made his commitment to the program.

The 6-foot-4, 180-pound athlete made his decision just days after visiting the University of Illinois campus earlier this week.

The sure-handed wide receiver from Moorpark, CA. (Moorpark College) will add more depth in the receiver room.  He was named the team's Offensive MVP last season with 64 catches for 900 yards and 10 touchdowns. Illinois receivers coach George McDonald has done a tremendous job of showcasing why Illinois is a program that will throw the football.

Capka-Jones attended the Illinois camp this past Wednesday where he picked up his seventh DI scholarship offer. He picked Illinois over his most recent offer from Texas A&M (who wanted him to be a preferred walk-on), Tennessee Tech, Morehead State, and Idaho State.

During Capka-Jones' career at Oak Park High School (CA), he recorded over 2,100 yards receiving and 26 touchdowns. With Illinois being his first Power 5 offer, they put themselves in the driver's seat. Sources close to the program feel he could turn out to be a red-shirt candidate (2023 class), but will he have two-years of college eligibility remaining.

“I picked Illinois because the coaches over there are top tier people, it is a great staff. On my official visit everyone wanted me there you could tell. It was a great experience for me, it is a perfect opportunity for me.” Capka-Jones said.
