Ayo Dosunmu is officially a millionaire.
The former first-team All-America selection at Illinois has reportedly signed a multi-year agreement with the Chicago Bulls after Dosunmu’s franchise selected him in the second round with the 38th overall selection.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charina, Dosunmu signed a two-year guaranteed contract with the Bulls for a total of $2.48 million. Dosunmu has been in Las Vegas this week playing in the NBA Summer League with the Bulls 2020 first round selection Patrick Williams. Through three games, Dosunmu has averaged six points to go along with five rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals.
Dosumu, who was born in Chicago and won a state high school championship at Morgan Park High School, ended his collegiate career at Illinois by earning consensus first team All-American honors after averaging 20.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game while leading the Illini to a Big Ten tournament title and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.
Just a few days after drafting Dosunmu, who is wearing No. 12 in Summer League, on July 29, the Bulls used the free agent market and trades to add star power to its backcourt led by recent Olympic gold medal recipient Zach LaVine. Chicago signed Lonzo Ball and DeMar Derozann, who are both expected to start for the Bulls in the upcoming 2021-22 season , while also adding Alex Caruso to a bench that has 2019 lottery pick Coby White. Despite those signings, Dosunmu is seen as a developmental depth piece to a Bulls team looking to end a four-year playoff drought.
Dosunmu led Illinois to its best season in 16 years, including Big Ten Tournament title, NCAA Tournament No. 1 seed, and No. 2 national ranking in final AP poll. The 6-foot-5 guard joined Michigan State All-American and NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson as the only two players in Big Ten Conference history with multiple triple-double performances in league play.
