At this point, few are questioning the talent or bonafides of incoming Illini freshman Quentin Coleman.

The O'Fallon, Illinois native led Principia of St. Louis to a 60-3 record and back-to-back Missouri State Championships the past two seasons on his way to being named that state's Gatorade Player of the Year and landing on multiple All-American lists.  Many Illinois fans - and even some national writers - have him penciled into the Illini's starting lineup this fall.

This weekend, Coleman will look to add to his impressive 2026 with a gold medal at the AmeriCup in Leon, Mexico.

The 6-foot-4 wing has been spectacular for head coach Anthony Grant's squad, averaging a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds per game as the USA Under-18 team scored three consecutive blowout wins in group A. Tonight, they face Brazil in the tournament semifinals in a rematch of a game earlier this week.  Team USA beat their South American rivals 84-62 Thursday night as Coleman put up 15 points and 12 rebounds in 25 minutes of action.

The winner advances to Sunday's gold medal game with Coleman trying to follow in the footsteps of former Illini Ty Rodgers, who won a gold medal with USA Basketball in 2022.
