Illinois point guard Mihailo Petrovic reportedly plans to enter the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining.

CHAMPAIGN — Mihailo Petrovic is planning to enter the transfer portal after finishing just one season at Illinois.

The 23-year-old Serbian point guard averaged just 5.7 minutes per game in 19 total games during the 2025-26 season but Petrovic never played more than six minutes in a game once the calendar flipped to 2026.

Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress was the first to report this news after gaining confirmation from Petrovic’s agent Miško Ražnatović. Petrovic is the first member of the 2025-26 Illini basketball roster with eligibility remaining to announce his future plans.

Petrovic had success overseas before coming to Illinois, winning most valuable player honors of the Adriatic League in 2025 before signing to play his first season of college basketball.

Petrovic played four minutes in the NCAA Tournament first round 105-70 victory over Pennsylvnia and one minute during the blowout win over Virginia Commonwealth. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard played a career-high 18 minutes against Connecticut in the loss to the Huskies on Nov. 29 inside Madison Square Garden. He made college debut and dished out five assists with three points in 12 minutes off the bench at the United Center in the loss to then-No. 11 Alabama on Nov. 19 after missing the first four games of the season with an hamstring injury.

Petrovic, who is slated to have two years of college basketball availability, averaged 14.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists while shooting 49 percent from the field and 33 percent from three-point range for KK Mega Basket during the 2024-25 Adriatic Basketball Association season with his club team.
