Champaign, IL – On Friday afternoon was media day, Illinois women's basketball head coach Shauna Green was asked about her plan to replace the talent leaving next season. Her response was simple: recruit.
Green made a bold move during a press conference, something rarely seen at Illinois. She announced that the Illini were securing a big-time recruit Saturday, with the potential for another commitment next week from another one.
Illinois welcomes Cearah Parchment, a 6-foot-2 wing from Fort Erie International Academy in Canada. Parchment is the second top 40 recruit in the class of 2025 to commit to the Illini, following Destiny Jackson from Chicago's Whitney Young High School, who is ranked No. 26. Jackson is a five-star recruit, while Parchment is rated as a four-star prospect by ESPN HoopGurlz.
This is Green’s second major commitment this week, after landing 6-foot-1 wing Erica Finney from Australia, a player known for her shooting.
Illinois assistant coach Britney Anderson led the recruitment of Parchment, who chose the Illini over Michigan, Minnesota, and Maryland.
Green also spoke about the increasing competitiveness of the Big Ten Conference, especially with the addition of West Coast schools, highlighting the importance of recruiting at a high level.
Illinois recently hosted Manuella Alves on campus. Alves, who has listed her top five schools as North Carolina, Louisville, Iowa, Miami, and Illinois, seems to be leaning toward a two-team race between Illinois and Miami, according to sources close to her camp.
As for what the Illini are getting in Parchment, she brings a unique combination of athleticism and skill.
Parchment is a versatile wing with a dangerous crossover in the open court, a solid three-point shot, and the ability to score effectively in the post with both hands. It’s these qualities that have earned her the No. 39 ranking in the country.
